The Margin: National Ice Cream Day deals and freebies from Baskin-Robbins, Carvel and Dairy Queen

Ready for sundae funday?

National Ice Cream Day is this Sunday, and we’ve got the scoop on the sweetest deals and freebies from dessert chains like Baskin-Robbins, Carvel, Dairy Queen and more.

And if you’re looking for something a little less vanilla, we also have a list of seven more exciting ways to indulge in National Ice Cream day, such as edible spray-on perfume toppings, boozy ice cream, pizza and paint-inspired flavors, sprinkle pools and more.

But here’s a list of where you can score a free or discounted scoop this weekend. Just take your time; you don’t want to give yourself an ice-cream headache!

16 Handles

Rewards members can score three ounces of soft serve and toppings for free at participating 16 Handles shops on Sunday by using an exclusive promotional code that will be revealed via the brand’s email newsletter or on its Instagram page the morning of July 17.

Baskin-Robbins

The Dunkin ice cream chain is dishing a new flavor of the month (“Oreo S’mores”) for National Ice Cream Month, and it will mark the big day on Sunday by offering $5 off any purchase $15 or more from July 17 through July 23. Guests can use the code “BECOOLER” at checkout to snag the deal during online orders.

Carvel

Carvel is pushing its new “Brookie” flavor (a soft-serve mix of brownie batter and Nestle Toll House cookies) by offering customers a buy one, get one free offer on a small cup or cone of Brookie ice cream (or any Carvel soft serve flavor, honestly) on National Ice Cream Day.

Cold Stone Creamery

Customers who download Cold Stone’s mobile app and create an account can get $4 off any purchase of $20 or more placed through the app from July 17 through July 21. Plus, online orders placed between July 15 and 17 will be eligible for free delivery. And guests can get a $5 bonus e-card when they purchase $25 in gift cards from ColdStoneCreamery.com

Dairy Queen

Get $1 off any dipped cone at Dairy Queen on July 17 when you download the DQ app and visit a participating restaurant.

Dippin’ Dots

On National Ice Cream Day, grab a free mini cup of Dippin’ Dots during a two-hour window at participating locations. Alas, there’s a set time schedule, so contact your local Dippin’ Dots to get the scoop.

Friendly’s

The family-friendly restaurant has an ongoing promotion where anyone who downloads the Friendly’s app gets a free medium ice cream sundae for signing up for the Sweet Rewards program. Members also get another free medium sundae after buying five medium or large sundaes.

Insomnia Cookies

The late-night bakery is getting into the ice cream business, too, with flavors like “Caramellionaire” (salted caramel cookies in salted caramel ice cream) and “Interstellar” (double chocolate mint cookies in mint ice cream). So Insomnia Cookies is celebrating the launch of its “Cookies IN Ice Cream” line by offering customers a free scoop of ice cream with any in-store purchase or order for local delivery from July 15 through July 17.

Whole Foods Market

Hot off of Prime Day, the Amazon-owned AMZN, +2.64% Whole Foods Market is offering 25% off all ice cream and frozen treats through July 19 — and Prime members get an additional 10% off.

What’s more, the grocery chain has teamed up with children’s book author Camila Alves McConaughey (you might recognize her husband, Matthew McConaughey) to create an exclusive “Taco Sundae,” which will be served for a limited time at ice cream pop-ups on National Ice Cream Day at three Whole Foods stores in New York, California and Texas. The first 500 customers at each of the three stores on July 17 between 1-4 p.m. local time will get free samples of her ice cream creation. The exact store addresses are:

  • LOS ANGELES: 3401 W. Olive Ave., Burbank, CA 91505
  • NEW YORK: 214 3rd St, Brooklyn, NY 11215
  • AUSTIN: 525 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78703
